Civility’s Eulogy

The hypocrisy, the utterly prosaic, even vulgar nature of our political engagement, is such a stark distinction from my youth. Either that, or my memory has become as unreliable as those whose voices are supposed to represent our own, the woefully disgruntled and begrudgingly, sometimes blindly loyal masses. Service to country, a phrase that historically rang with untarnished notions of star spangled allegiance and modest grandeur, now evokes trepidation, perhaps the witting goal of mongers on both sides of the proverbial isle. Peter, Paul, and Mary pondered the loss of our youth, our soldiers, our flowers. They are a heaven away, lost to us, sitting on a depressed cloud, along side leadership’s civility, integrity, and compassion.
